Chitra Nagarajan works with and in peacebuilding organisations. Areas of work include:
supporting civilians to identify and mitigate protection risks, including through taking action themselves or conducting advocacy to others (e.g. Brigade Commanders and humanitarian organisations);
training soldiers, police officers, and community militia members on human rights, international humanitarian law, and civilian protection and harm mitigation in operations;
facilitating community dialogues between civilians and security forces on civilian protection and human rights;
leading policy, advocacy and campaigning, for example on civilian protection and on women, peace and security;
engaging in analysis of conflict dynamics around elections and supporting NGOs to put in place conflict mitigation and transformation plans;
integrating conflict, gender, and social inclusion analyses into programme design, inception, and implementation;
providing strategic leadership and technical advice to peacebuilding programmes;
setting up offices and managing civilian protection programmes;
working on peacebuilding projects in Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and São Tomé and Príncipe;
developing case-studies and programmatic guidance on mechanisms used to integrate peace outcomes into development programmes; and
conducting monitoring, evaluations and learning processes, for example of conflict mitigation programmes and National Action Plans on Women, Peace and Security.
